Welcome to Old Owen's Association and Sports Club Limited

Old Owen's Association (OOA) was established for the past pupils of Dame Alice Owen's School. This was at a time when the school was still based in Islington, and the Old Owen's Sports Club was based in Chandos Avenue, Whetstone.

The aim of the Association is to provide the above facilities to its members, and also to provide a forum for Old Boys and Girls of Dame Alice Owen's School to stay in touch. Within this website you will find a forum for members to look up old friends from School Years, exchange details, chat and provide articles, photos either from the current day or from days gone by.

Following the School’s move to Potters Bar, the Old Owen's Association moved from Whetstone in 1988 to it's current home at Coopers Lane, (Northaw), Potters Bar, Herts., EN6 4NF. The Association bought the ground and a clubhouse was built, along with a bungalow for a groundsman or manager.

The ground covers some three acres and provides facilities and social events for Old Owen's Association members, Old Owen's Cricket Club, Old Owen's Football Club, Potters Bar Town Football Club and a number of other associated clubs.

On the 1st August 2014, the Old Owen's Association acquired 'Charitable Status' and is now known as Old Owen's Association and Sports Club Limited.

The Managers at Old Owens Sports Club

John and Lynn Clark (pictured above) took over management of the club on the 1st July 2010 and have settled in their role very well. They have

a wealth of experience in the leisure industry which they have brought to Old Owens. John has 30 years’ experience in the Casino industry, dealing with a diverse customer base from all over the UK and overseas. He has been heavily involved in corporate entertainment, organised at key UK sporting events and venues, such as:

  • Golf at Wentworth
  • Racing at Ascot, particularly Ladies Day
  • Hosting boxes at the Emirates Stadium, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur

John has also hosted hospitality events including entertainment from Elvis impersonators to the Rat Pack.

Lynn has 15 years of experience in corporate entertaining and particularly organising fun casinos. Her expertise is in organising events such as weddings, charity and corporate events.

John and Lynn are a local couple having moved to Potters Bar four years ago from Barnet, where they lived for 25 years. They have a daughter and two sons - Megan, Edward and Adam. Both sons played football for Potters Bar United from the age of six. Through their sons’ involvement John and Lynn have been long-term members of the Old Owen's Association and are familiar with the Sports Ground in Coopers Lane and many of the club’s members.

John and Lynn have already implemented a series of themed evenings and events during their tenancy, encouraging members to maximise use of their Clubhouse – either for their teams, their friends and families.

Events have included:

  • Casino night
  • Bonfire night
  • Karaoke night
  • Quiz night
  • Elvis night
  • Barbeques

“We are very excited to have the opportunity to put into place the plans we have for the Sports Ground.” John said. “We’d like to reach out to all Old Owens members located near and far from the Clubhouse through sporting and social events to ensure all feel they are welcome and can use the facilities. We’re also more than aware how heavily the Clubhouse is used by affiliated clubs and their members, along with being available to the general public for weddings, birthdays, other celebrations and general get-togethers.

The Clubhouse is also available for meetings and is currently being used by Potters Bar Round Table, The ‘41’ Club and Potters Bar ‘Rotary Club’.

Tim Lane commented: “As Chairman of the Old Owen's Association, we have been very happy working with John and Lynn as managers of the Sports Ground. We’re committed to supporting a successful period of growth under their management.”

Anyone who is interested in hiring the Hall should contact John and Lynn on 01707 644 211 (Old Owens Sports Ground).
